It took many years (30, to be exact) to evolve from the venerable IBM PC of 1981 to the high-powered tech gadgets of today. The original idea of the PC was sound: using off the shelf parts combined with a relatively open, but fiercely curated set of standards so we wouldn’t have to reinvent the wheel every time we wanted to advance from one version of the PC to the next.
