Alzheimers disease by the numbers

As the American population ages, more and more people each year will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. Already today, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s — and most will need the help of family and friends to cope with their disease. To support them, 11 million people are providing unpaid care — care that takes an emotional, physical, and financial toll on family caregivers. To face this public health crisis, we’ll need breakthroughs in prevention and treatment. And we’ll also need to find better ways to support Alzheimer’s caregivers.
